In October 2012, our family was in an upheaval. Scott's health was deteriorating and we were no closer to a diagnosis than we had been nine months before. Everything was neglected - our home, our marriage, our friends. The honey bees I'd so carefully set out to nurture took a back seat, and by October 2012, either due to robbing or starvation, they were dead.
Fast forward to today and we have a very different picture set out before us. Scott has a diagnosis - and a plan - and is perhaps (minus the multiple myeloma) in the best health he has seen in a good long while. Our marriage is rock solid, even stronger than it was at its inception, and we celebrate each day for the gift that it is.
I decided to try again with bees this spring and was a bit apprehensive, to tell the truth. Would these meet the same fate? Could I give them the attention they needed? Would I have the time to care for them? The image above is testament to their present vitality. The pollen they are carrying in give evidence to young being nurtured and raised inside the walls of the hive. The number of them coming in is proof of their strength and fortitude.
I do not know what the future holds, but right now I can say that they are healthy and they are strong.
